Gonzalo Samitier, ESSKA Faculty in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Surgery

Dr Gonzalo Samitier will participate as Faculty in the ESSKA European Certification Programme on anterior cruciate ligament surgery in Barcelona

Sep 23, 2026

Specialised training in knee surgery plays a fundamental role in the development of sports traumatology. In this context, the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery & Arthroscopy (ESSKA) continues to develop its European Certification Programme, a European programme structured around different training and assessment modules.

As part of this programme, Dr Gonzalo Samitier, Director of Samitier Sports, will participate as Faculty in the module dedicated to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which will take place in Barcelona on 18 and 19 February 2027.

Specialised training in anterior cruciate ligament surgery

The Anterior Cruciate Ligament – Part II: Surgical Skills Assessment module is designed to assess the knowledge and practical skills required for the planning and performance of procedures related to anterior cruciate ligament surgery, using current surgical techniques and following the standards established by the ESSKA community.

The programme combines different learning and assessment activities, including case study assessment, practical skills assessment, expert demonstration sessions and opportunities to discuss different surgical approaches and techniques.

During the second day, participants will also have the opportunity to examine alternative approaches and novel techniques under the guidance of the programme Faculty.

A European certification programme

The ESSKA European Certification Programme is based on the ESSKA Specialist Core Curriculum, launched in May 2020.

It is a modular programme in which each area of knowledge follows a specific structure of learning, activities and assessment. Successful completion of each module leads to an ESSKA Certificate of Excellence in the corresponding field.

The programme brings together international specialists in knee surgery and sports traumatology. The Faculty of the ACL module includes professionals from different European centres, with Dr Gonzalo Samitier participating as a representative from Spain.

ESSKA’s official programme documentation lists Dr Samitier among the specialists forming part of the Faculty for this module.
